Common questions

Plain answers. No fluff.

The questions we actually get — and what the answer looks like before the legal team gets to it.

01 · eSIM basics

What this thing is.

An eSIM is a digital SIM that lives inside your phone — no physical card to insert. travel.to delivers an eSIM profile as a QR code; you scan it, the profile installs, and you have data on a new network. Your existing SIM stays untouched.
Most flagship phones since 2018: iPhone XS and newer, Pixel 3+, Galaxy S20+. See the full list →
Yes. The travel.to eSIM runs as a second line. Your home number stays on its physical SIM or primary eSIM and keeps receiving SMS for 2FA. You pick which line handles data in Settings.
An eSIM is a software profile. A physical SIM is a chip you slot into your phone. eSIMs activate instantly via QR code, work as second lines, and can be issued from anywhere — no kiosk, no shipping.
No. The travel.to eSIM is a second line. Your home number stays active on its existing SIM and continues to receive calls and SMS — including 2FA codes from banks.
02 · Plans & pricing

What you pay, what you get.

5 GB covers a typical working week on hotel/coworking WiFi. For demos, video calls, or hotspot use, take 15 GB. For unlimited working without thinking about it, take 28-day Unlimited.
travel.to unlimited plans run at full 5G/4G speed up to 50 GB per month. After that we slow to 5 Mbps — enough for video calls and Slack, not enough for 4K Netflix. We never disconnect you.
Default international roaming costs $10–25 per gigabyte on most US and European carrier plans. travel.to sits below that by an order of magnitude. The first plan typically pays for itself before day one of a trip.
Yes — from your dashboard. Same eSIM profile, new plan. No reinstall, no new QR.
travel.to. Premium positioning, same coverage breadth, substantively better terms: full refund if it fails to activate, 50 GB at full speed before fair-use throttling, support response under four hours.
All major credit and debit cards via Stripe — Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, JCB. Apple Pay and Google Pay supported in Checkout. EU VAT and other applicable taxes handled automatically by Stripe Tax.
03 · Install & connection

From paid to online.

Median under two minutes from purchase to working data. Scan the QR before boarding and you'll connect on landing — usually before customs is done with you.
Under two minutes end-to-end. QR arrives in your inbox seconds after purchase. Profile install takes about 30 seconds. The first network handshake happens automatically when you reach the local network.
Every welcome email includes the LPA activation string in plain text. Paste it into Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Enter Details Manually and the profile installs identically.
No. Once the profile is installed, the QR has no further purpose. You can also re-download it from your dashboard any time you need to reinstall.
04 · Trust & refunds

When something goes sideways.

Full refund if the eSIM fails to activate. Half refund if it activates but underperforms. Both refunds are one click from your dashboard. No email thread, no proof-of-purchase requests.
Email support with a median response time under four hours. If you're mid-meeting, write the word URGENT in the subject and we answer first. No bots, no AI chat, no offshore call center scripts.
Built and supported from Madrid. Stripe handles payments. Network providers are the regional carriers we partner with in each country, named on every country page.
No third-party tracking, no ad networks, no behavioral profiles. We log technical usage (data consumed against your plan) so the dashboard can show it and we can detect abuse. We never sell or share it.
